On February 15 we experienced a short period of about 30 minutes during which one of our Asian customers generated hundreds of download requests. This slowed down the server and we had to take immediate precautions to make sure it won't happen again. We have to protect our loyal customers, it's not possible that a brand new customer suddenly starts downloading the whole content during the first hour of his membership.
So from now on there's a limit of 100 downloads per hour. I'm sure this will be more than enough for everybody :-) Technically it's not even possible to finish so many downloads in such a short time! What it may affect though are download managers or some special browser plugins. Please don't use them - they work by establishing dozens of HTTP connections for each of the downloaded files and as a result one customer can unintentionally block half of the server's resources. Just 10 videos can mean 100+ connections and that could easily block 20% of the server capacity.
We do NOT limit the output speed in any way so please stop using download managers, they won't help you, they will just slow down our server an in the end that makes the browsing experience worse for others. Thank you! :-)
